In order to ensure our staff are fully aware of the correct waste disposal systems we have in place around the hotel, signage and information displays are prominent in all back of house areas and our staff canteen.
We have recycling points on each floor for our housekeepers to use, dividing glass, paper and general waste. If you have any waste you would like us to recycle on your behalf please leave it in the bin in your room for the team or hand to one of our team members who will ensure correct disposal. Our office staff also recycle all toner cartridges and paper wastage throughout the year.
GREEN TEAM LITTER PICKS
Members of our green team undertake regular litter picks around the ground, separating waste so that it can then be recycled correctly. Each department in the hotel has a representative who gives up their time to ensure our collective sustainable efforts are continually progressing.
PARTNERSHIP WITH MANAGED WASTE SOLUTIONS
We began a partnership with Managed Waste Solutions in late 2014, which ensured that as much of our waste in the hotel as possible could be recycled. Twice a week, 7 containers (with a capacity per container of 240 litres) of separated glass waste is collected from the hotel. This equates to approximately 3,360 litres of waste a week. Three times a week up to 3,300 litres of cardboard is also collected and up to 16,500 litres of food and office waste. All this waste is then able to be recycled. Food peelings are kept and used as compost in our Kitchen Gardens.
THE MARQUEE BAR
One of our most recent recycling achievements was the ‘upcycling’ of old wooden pallets to create our new outdoor bar.
These pallets were utilised instead of purchasing new materials and have allowed our maintenance team to create a unique, visually pleasing bar which will be used during the summer months for our BBQ and outdoor events under the Stretch marquee.
This is a wonderful example of how our old materials can be given new life, reducing the need for waste and new materials.
Throughout the hotel, our maintenance team are constantly looking to utilise old materials, upcycling to not only reduce our waste but to aid in our push to educate guests on thinking outside of the box before deeming materials surplus to requirements.
